The Georgian government has authorized the Georgian Restaurant Association and CARE Caucasus to use funding provided by the European Union and Austria under the PROGRESS – Promoting Green Skills for Sustainability project.
The project, implemented by CARE Caucasus, the Georgian Restaurant Association, and CARE Austria, has a total budget of €863,000 and runs from 2024 to 2026. The government resolution granting permission to use the grant was issued on July 16.
The initiative has already delivered several activities, including a free online training course on green transformation in food services, a sustainability competition for hospitality businesses, and a study visit to Barcelona, where participants explored best practices in green restaurants and cooperation between the HORECA sector and vocational education.
Under Georgia's Law on Grants, foreign grants require prior government approval before they can be used by organizations operating in the country. Without such approval, recipients may face a fine equal to twice the value of the grant.
