Georgia’s Annual Inflation Holds at 5.6% in September - Geostat

Georgia’s annual inflation stood at 5.6% in September 2026, unchanged from August, according to a report published by Geostat. Transport and fuel drove the largest contribution, with prices up by 18.7% and adding 2.2 percentage points to annual inflation. Prices rose by 25.8% for personal vehicle operation and 14.9% for transport services.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 3.4% year-on-year, contributing 1.24 percentage points to overall inflation. Prices rose for fish (18.1%), meat and meat products (9%), bread and bakery products (6.9%), oils and fats (4.8%), coffee, tea and cocoa (4.6%), and vegetables (0.4%). Prices declined for fruit and grapes (-4.3%), sugar, jam and confectionery (-0.7%), and mineral and spring water, soft drinks and natural juices (-0.6%).

Housing, water, electricity and gas prices increased by 9.2%, contributing 0.89 percentage points to annual inflation. Prices rose mainly for actual rentals for housing (10.9%), electricity, gas and other fuels (10.5%), and maintenance and repair of dwellings (9.8%). Healthcare prices increased 8%, contributing 0.66 percentage points, with outpatient medical services up 11.5% and medical products, equipment and devices up 8.8%.

Education was the main downward contributor, with prices falling by 12.5% and reducing annual inflation by 0.55 percentage points. The decline was driven primarily by a 32.9% drop in higher education prices, while prices increased for pre-primary and primary education (7%), education not defined by level (6.8%), and secondary education (6.6%).
