Georgia’s Auto Exports Drop 24% in January–February 2026

ავტომობილები

In the first two months of 2026, Georgia’s car exports fell sharply. Total auto exports reached $216 million, down $68.9 million (24%) compared to the same period last year. In terms of units, 8,400 vehicles were exported, marking a 31% decrease year-on-year.

The decline is largely tied to key markets such as Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. In the past two years, Georgia experienced a boom in car exports to Kyrgyzstan, largely because the country is not subject to sanctions imposed on Russia, allowing Kyrgyz auto dealers to resell vehicles in the Russian market. However, in 2026, exports to these markets have started to decline.

Other notable developments include a new market for Georgian auto exports in Iran, where 228 vehicles worth $4 million were shipped in January–February 2026, compared to zero in the same period last year. Additionally, exports to Moldova and Ukraine increased, partially offsetting the decline in traditional markets.

The overall trend reflects a shift in Georgia’s car trade flows, with declining volumes in previously dominant markets and emerging opportunities in new destinations.
