The cost of 13 basic food products in Georgia fell by approximately 15% between July and September 2026, while prices for 10 non-food products declined by around 32%, according to Irakli Lekvinadze, head of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency.
Speaking at a parliamentary committee meeting, Lekvinadze said the grocery basket’s cost dropped from approximately GEL 43 in July to GEL 36.50 by the end of September. The non-food basket fell from GEL 38 to around GEL 26.
The figures are based on ekalata.gov.ge, the agency’s price comparison portal, which tracks the best offers across 16 retail chains. Prices are updated daily, allowing consumers to compare offers online and through a mobile application.
Lekvinadze said greater price transparency encourages competition, with retailers frequently changing their positions among the lowest-priced providers.
The portal also estimates potential consumer savings. According to Lekvinadze, the combined savings from purchasing one unit of each listed product at the lowest available prices amounted to around GEL 2,500 last month.
The agency plans to collect sales data from retailers at the end of the year to estimate actual consumer savings over a six-month period.
