According to Geostat, the average number of people employed in Georgia’s business sector reached 899,000 in 2025, up by 3.8% year-on-year, or 32,800 people. The number of employees hired by businesses rose by 3.2% to 827,200. Total personnel expenses increased by 12.2% to GEL 22.3 billion, while the average monthly salary rose by GEL 173.9 to GEL 2,198.4.
The highest average salaries were recorded in medium-sized businesses at GEL 2,755.6, followed by large businesses at GEL 2,497.3 and small businesses at GEL 1,507.4. Despite large businesses dominating turnover, SMEs accounted for 60.6% of business-sector jobs, with small businesses representing 40.9% and medium-sized businesses 19.7%.
Wholesale and retail trade, including vehicle and motorcycle repair, employed the largest share of workers at 29.5%. Manufacturing accounted for 11%, healthcare and social work 9.1%, transport and storage 8.6%, construction 7.8%, information and communication 6%, and accommodation and food services 5.4%. Other sectors accounted for 22.6%.
Employment was heavily concentrated in Tbilisi, which accounted for 62.1% of all business-sector jobs in 2025. Adjara followed with 10.1%, Imereti with 7.1%, Kvemo Kartli with 5.7%, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti with 3.6%, Kakheti with 3.1%, Shida Kartli with 2.9%, Mtskheta-Mtianeti with 1.9%, Samtskhe-Javakheti with 1.8%, Guria with 1.2%, and Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti with 0.4%.
