Georgia’s Foreign Debt Down By GEL 3 BLN

The Ministry of Finance of Georgia published a financial document. As of December 31, 2022, the foreign debt of Georgia amounted to USD 8.34 billion or GEL 22.54 billion. Y-O-Y, the state foreign debt increased by 130 million in USD, while decreased by 2.9 billion in GEL. The main reason for this was the strengthening of the national currency.

The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) credit ranks the first in Georgia's foreign debt, which the country took to develop the largest infrastructure projects. The World Bank Group is in the second place, the WB credits are mainly used for infrastructure projects as well. The European Investment Bank is in third place.

● France (AFD) – USD 736 million;
● Germany (KFW) – USD 626 million;

● AIIB – USD 196 million;
● IMF (government) – USD 196 million;
● Japan – USD 157 million;
● EU - USD 142 million;
● IFAD – USD 37 million;
● Russia – USD 25 million;
● Austria – USD 14 million;
● Kuwait – USD 12 million;
● United States of America – USD 11 million;
● CEB – USD 9 million;
● Turkey – USD 6 million;
● Kazakhstan – USD 4 million;
● Azerbaijan - USD 3 million;
● Armenia – USD 3 million;
● Iran - USD 2 million

In addition, the Government of Georgia has issued Eurobonds worth USD 500 million and the National Bank owes USD 428 million to the IMF.
