Georgia’s leasing sector portfolio exceeded GEL 1.8 billion in the first half of 2026, up by 8.5%, or GEL 147.5 million, year-on-year. The sector’s net profit also increased, rising by GEL 7.8 million to GEL 64.2 million, a 13.9% annual increase.
According to Kote Sulamanidze, CEO of BB Leasing, the strongest portfolio growth is being recorded by pawnshop leasing providers rather than traditional leasing companies. He said the total figure includes both conventional leasing companies and businesses offering pawnshop-based leasing.
The portfolio of traditional leasing companies stands at about GEL 1 billion, with growth of approximately 1.3%. Sulamanidze said limited business financing in the first two quarters constrained growth, while auto leasing expanded by around 8%. He linked the increase to the ban on importing cars older than six years, which took effect on April 1 and prompted consumers planning to buy vehicles to accelerate purchases before the restriction.
Sulamanidze said BB Leasing’s own portfolio grew by around 2%, while the broader market’s strongest growth was recorded in auto-pawnshop leasing. He added that the company’s revenues are also increasing mainly on the back of auto leasing, while traditional business leasing has seen more limited expansion.
