Georgia's new passenger car market expanded by 20% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, adding around 1,000 units, according to Petre Tsakadze, Chief Officer of Passenger Cars and Services at Tegeta Holding. Speaking on Business Morning, he said the strongest growth came from Chinese brands, whose sales rose by around 70% to nearly 1,000 units, while the hybrid vehicle market doubled to approximately 3,500 units. Sales of new electric vehicles also increased by 30% compared with the same period last year.

Tsakadze noted that competition in the market has intensified significantly, with the number of major brands tripling over the past six to seven years. Although Georgia remains primarily a used-car market, with new vehicles accounting for only 15% of annual imports, he said the share of new cars is gradually increasing, helping modernize the country's vehicle fleet.

Tegeta Cars, which represents eight automotive brands, outperformed the overall market, increasing its market share by 2 percentage points to 34% of Georgia's new passenger car market. Among official dealers alone, the company's share exceeds 50%. Tsakadze highlighted growing sales of Toyota and Mazda despite an overall decline in Japanese brands, while identifying Geely and Zeekr as key growth drivers in the Chinese segment.

Looking ahead, Tegeta plans to expand its express service network and roll out its new "one-stop-shop" service model across regional branches. The company is also enhancing its Tegeta Comfort service, aiming to manage the entire vehicle maintenance process for customers, including reminders, vehicle pickup, servicing, and delivery.
