Around 900,000 visitors visited Georgia’s protected areas in the first eight months of 2026, according to the Agency of Protected Areas. Georgian citizens accounted for 41% of visitors, while international visitors made up the majority.
Tamara Khakhishvili, deputy head of the agency, said the organization is developing ecotourism services alongside its biodiversity conservation and protection activities. She noted that the agency is also working to promote ecotourism in the regions.
Prometheus Cave, Martvili Canyon and Mtirala National Park remain among the country’s most popular protected-area destinations, Khakhishvili said. These sites regularly rank among the most visited locations each year.
The agency’s own revenues also increased significantly. According to Khakhishvili, revenue recorded over the first eight months exceeded the corresponding figure from the previous year by 48%.
