The Georgian Finance Ministry’s Revenue Service and Investigation Service have appointed new heads. Mamuka Baratashvili has been named head of the Revenue Service, while Merab Gamkrelidze will lead the Investigation Service.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with the newly appointed officials together with Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili, congratulated them on their appointments and wished them success in their new roles.
Baratashvili has extensive experience within the Finance Ministry system. He served as first deputy head of the Revenue Service in 2020–2021 and headed the ministry’s Tax and Customs Policy Department from 2011 to 2020. He has also led the Revenue Service’s Dispute and Legal departments. Gamkrelidze previously headed the Revenue Service’s Legal Department and has extensive experience at the Investigation Service, where he held several senior positions. He also served as deputy head of the National Forensics Bureau and deputy head of the Government Administration’s Department for Relations with Regions.
The changes follow the departures of Revenue Service head Mikheil Maghlakelidze and Finance Ministry Investigation Service head Levan Kharabadze, which became known on September 12. The government has not publicly provided detailed reasons for their departures.
