Georgia’s role as a logistics hub is becoming increasingly important amid global challenges and heightened tensions in the Middle East, according to Nino Menteshashvili, director of APB Logistics and founder of FedEx’s representative office in Georgia.
Speaking to BMG, Menteshashvili said long-distance cargo transportation has become increasingly risky in the global market. She believes that a major logistics hub in Georgia could enable Eastern Europe and other regions to secure product supplies more easily and safely, particularly when disruptions emerge along major trade routes.
According to Menteshashvili, Georgia’s strategic location gives the country an opportunity to become a reliable support point for the Middle Corridor, where demand for transit cargo is growing rapidly. She said the emergence of conflict hotspots can force businesses to seek alternative suppliers and routes, creating significant uncertainty and stress for companies dependent on distant supply chains.
Menteshashvili said Georgia should be prepared to capitalize on this changing environment, as businesses increasingly recognize the risks associated with transporting goods over long distances. According to Galt & Taggart, Georgia currently has 1.77 million sq. m. of warehouse space, with a large share concentrated in Tbilisi. The investment bank expects warehouse supply in the capital to reach 1.45 million sq. m. in 2026 and 1.65 million sq. m. in 2027.
