The Georgian government is once again planning to introduce a new Law on Investment Protection and Promotion, according to its legislative agenda for the 2026 autumn parliamentary session.
The bill, being prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, was also included in the agenda for the spring session. It is expected to replace the existing 1996 and 2006 laws governing investment protection and state support.
The government says the current legal framework remains an obstacle to attracting new investment. The new law is intended to create a more flexible, transparent, and predictable legal environment, while strengthening legal protections for both domestic and foreign investors and aligning legislation with international best practices.
The government has not yet specified what provisions the new bill will include regarding investors’ property rights, considered one of the key aspects of investment protection.
