Gov't Is Looking For An Investor To Build 350 MGWT Thermal Power Plant

თბოსადგური

The government of Georgia is looking for an investor who will build a new thermal power plant with a capacity of 350-430 megawatts in Gardabani. Interest expression was announced this summer, but the bidding was delayed several times.

Interested investors were initially supposed to submit proposals by August 31, which was postponed to October 31, and now - until November 30.

Initially, the construction of the 272 MW combined cycle thermal power plant in Gardabani municipality was planned. In addition, GOGC itself was supposed to be the project implementer and financier, however, in 2023, the conditions were changed and instead of the state, the project should be implemented with private investment.

The company that will buy the assets of "Gardabani 3" from the state and build a new thermal station should be selected as the winner of the tender.

The companies wishing to participate in the tender must submit information that they have built a combined cycle thermal power plant with a capacity of at least 150 megawatts after 2012. The new thermal power plant will be built on the land owned by the corporation, adjacent to the already existing thermal plants "Gardabani 1" and "Gardabani 2".

The tender for the construction of Gardabani Thermal Power Station 3 was announced for the first time in 2020. At that time, Turkish "Chalik Energy" was named as the best contender for the construction of the 272-megawatt station, which would build the project for USD 174.8 million. However, in the spring of 2021, the corporation announced that the contract with "Chalik Energy" would no longer be signed.
