Amendments are being introduced to the Law on the Structure, Powers, and Rules of Procedure of the Government of Georgia. The draft law has already been submitted to Parliament and is being considered under an expedited procedure, as was announced at today’s Bureau session.
The bill proposes the creation of a new position within the Government: the State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies. It also includes transitional provisions under which the Government will define the scope of authority and responsibilities of the new State Minister.
According to a briefing held at the Government Administration on March 21, Mamuka Mdinaradze will be appointed to the new post, while also serving as Deputy Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the creation of the new State Minister’s office requires legislative changes. Although the bill was expected to be submitted last week, it was officially registered at the Bureau session today. He also noted that Mdinaradze, who previously headed the State Security Service, is returning to active political duties through this appointment.
