“300 oncological patients, children, will be fully funded by the state; we have selected the best facility in the world to treat these children,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
According to the government’s head, unfortunately, treatment of children with oncological disorders is often not viable in Georgia due to financial constraints.
“I’d want to inform you that I recently directed the Minister of Health, and we’ve begun working on a critical concern. You are aware that Georgia has around 300 children diagnosed with oncology, who are sponsored and treated by our state, with GEL 10 million allocated to them each year. But, you are also aware that not all conditions exist in Georgia today to deliver comprehensive and high-quality, high-standard services. In many instances, we must send these youngsters abroad for treatment. Treatments such as plutonium therapy, radiation, and other procedures cost tens of thousands of dollars; the cost for a single course can make at least 10,000 euros, and, of course, our citizens cannot afford this; not everyone can, and neither can the state. Such programs are sponsored by the state referral services program, and therefore this issue remains unresolved. Under our decision, the state will completely fund 300 pediatric oncology patients. We have chosen the best clinic in the world to treat these children,” the Prime Minister stated.
This initiative will get around GEL 30 million, according to Irakli Garibashvili.
“A budget of up to 30 million GEL will be allocated.” We will pay for all expenditures, including treatment, living expenses, and travel. As a result, the state will fund all oncology treatments for approximately 300 children. It is about saving lives, and it is, of course, our responsibility to assist all such people. It’s fantastic that we were able to get the necessary funds for this purpose. I would like to remind you that a few years ago, on my initiative, we established the Solidarity Fund and financed the treatment of a thousand beneficiary children, oncology patients, with GEL 25 million GEL, and now, as a result of this program, no child will face a money issue, and no family will face a problem. We treat everyone at the best clinics in the world,” Garibashvili remarked.
