Georgian government will subsidize domestic flights with several millions of GEL next year as well.

The government is implementing a funding program to stimulate domestic flights for several years. Air company AK-Air Georgia receives funding from the budget for the fulfillment of domestic flights across the country, as the company won the tender announced by the Union of Georgian Airports in 2018.

The state company plans to announce a new tender in the first half of the next year. As Tamar Archuadze, Director of the Georgian Airports Association, told bm.ge, the state subsidy will be extended to new destinations. In particular, Telavi-Mestia and Telavi-Batumi will be added to the existing routes.

"At this stage, flights are fulfilled in the direction of Mestia, Batumi, Ambrolauri and Kutaisi. Adding new destinations, including Telavi-Mestia, Telavi-Batumi are being considered. An increase in frequencies is also discussed. We expect the announcement of the tender for domestic flights in the first half of 2023, which will allow us to continue the project of domestic flights continuously", Tamar Archuadze said.

According to Giorgi Kakauridze, Deputy Minister of Finance, GEL 8 million is provided for subsidizing domestic flights in next year's budget.
