Under the newly presented general education reform concept, 12th grade will become voluntary in Georgian schools, Education Minister Givi Mikanadze announced today.
According to the minister, students who wish to continue their studies beyond the mandatory 11 years will be able to enroll in the 12th grade through a special registration process. A registration platform will open every March, allowing interested students to sign up for the optional final year.
“The Ministry of Education, Science and Youth fully guarantees that 11 years of schooling will be sufficient to provide young people with a complete general education,” Mikanadze said. “However, we are keeping a voluntary component. Anyone who wishes to study in the 12th grade will be able to register, and the following academic year a 12th grade will be opened specifically for them, ensuring their interests are met.”
