Green Lending Grows to GEL 1.7 BLN – NBG Begins Publishing Statistics

The volume of green loans issued by Georgian commercial banks reached GEL 1.7 billion as of November 2025, marking a 56% year-on-year increase, according to the newly published green lending statistics from the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

The NBG released Georgia’s sustainable finance taxonomy in 2022, developed with local and international stakeholders. Starting today, statistics on loans issued under this taxonomy are publicly available. The data is collected through monthly green loan reports and fully complies with the sustainable finance taxonomy regulation.

According to the new statistics, renewable energy ranks first in green financing with GEL 940 million in loans. It is followed by green (energy-efficient) buildings and construction with GEL 491 million, and sustainable agriculture with GEL 116 million.

In November alone, the volume of green loans increased by GEL 81 million.

Other categories included in green financing are: waste management and recycling (GEL 25 million), sustainable manufacturing (GEL 32 million), and green, environmentally clean transport with a GEL 69 million loan portfolio.
