Gudauri must address its basic infrastructure shortcomings before it can position itself as a year-round mountain resort, according to Maiko Murachashvili, manager of Gudauri Roshe Hotel and founder of the Strategic Hotel Management Group.
Speaking to BMGTV, Murachashvili said the resort faces serious governance and infrastructure challenges, including traffic congestion, a lack of parking, sidewalks, proper sewage systems, and adequate medical services. "It's embarrassing that we're still talking about garbage collection, missing sidewalks, and hotels not connected to the sewage network," she said, arguing that such conditions undermine Gudauri's image as an international destination.
Murachashvili also called for the creation of a single management authority to oversee the resort, saying responsibilities are currently split among multiple municipalities, government agencies, and utility providers. According to her, this fragmented governance makes it difficult to solve long-standing problems efficiently.
She added that Gudauri's summer tourism potential remains largely untapped. Although the summer season officially opens on July 18 with ski lifts operating, no major events have been planned to attract visitors. Murachashvili argued that without better infrastructure and coordinated destination management, efforts to develop Gudauri into a four-season resort will remain limited.
