In January-September 2021, 1,188,234 international visitors visited Georgia, which is 20% of September 2019, - according to the report of TBC Capital.
Despite the fact that in September number of visitors started to decline, recovery relative to 2019 was higher than in August (24.5%) and totaled 28.9%. The main factors of improvement are pent up demand and relatively stable covid situation. In September, number of intentional visitors increased by 349%, relative to the same period of 2020.
“In September, the highest number of visitors were from Russia and their share totaled 15%. However, share of neghbour countries, relative to August, remained unchanged and stood at 41%, significantly lower than in the same period of 2019 (66%). Share of Turkey increased by 2 percentage points, relative to 2019, and totaled 14%. Share of visitors from Israel amounted to 3%, up from 1% in August. Relative to September 2019, shares of countries of the Middle East (8%) and Ukraine (10%) increased. Rise can also be observed for the countries of EU (11%)”, - the report reads.
According to TBC Capital, traditionally after August, average occupancy in hotels starts to decline. In September 2021, occupancy decreased by 27%, relative to August and totaled 50%. At the same time, decline relative to 2019 totaled 19%. Occupancy in large hotels decreased by 22%, relative to 2019, and stood at 58%. As for medium and small hotels, in September average occupancy decreased to 42%, standing still far behind its 2019 levels.
