Electricity consumption tariffs in Georgia have been increased from January 1, 2021 "Telmiko" and "Energo Pro" increased electricity tariffs by 3.5 tetri. According to the decision of former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, state launched a new project to subsidize the increased electricity project.
All households who consumed up to 300 kilowatts of electricity per month were funded from 3.5 tetri per kWh from the budget, which was GEL 10.5 in total per month. Over 456 thousand subscribers of Telasi have received an average subsidy of GEL 4.16 per month on electricity tariffs, while 809 thousand subscribers of "Energo Pro" received an average subsidy of GEL 3.70 per month.
As of GNERC, GEL 54.2 million was spent on this subsidy in January-October. Among them, the amount received by consumer subscribers was GEL 46.2 million, and the amount received by commercial subscribers was GEL 8 million.
According to the decision of the former PM, increased tariffs on electricity were subsidized by 50% for local food companies, as a result of which, the tariff increase did not affect the price of food produced in Georgia.
Electricity tariff subsidy project might be continued for the next year.
