How Much Electricity Was Generated From Hydro Power Plants?

Energy advisory company OMNIA published the Electricity Market Report for 1H2024. According to the document, in the first six months of 2024, the gross power generation of Georgia was 7,3345.5 GWh. 6,056 GWH was generated by hydropower plants, 1,239.1 GWH by thermal power plants, and 39.4 GWH by wind power plants.

Total net consumption in 6M2024 reached 6,752 GWH. This energy amounted to 3,474.1 GWH supplied to retail customers 1,368 GWH consumed in the territory of occupied Abkhazia, 1,516.8 GWH consumed in the territory of occupied Abkhazia , 1,516.8 GWH consumed by large industrial consumers and 551.9 GWh of TSO and DSO Losses, and a small amount of power was consumed by generation companies for self-consumption during their out of operation periods.

The 3,474.1 GWH of supplied energy was distributed among suppliers as follows: 2,078.3 GWH to Universal service suppliers, 1,391.8 GWH to Public service suppliers and 4.1 GWH to other suppliers.

To meet its demand, Georgia imported 456.9 GWH of energy during the first half of 2024. During the same period, from Janaury to June 2024, the country exported 757 GWH of power. The net cross-border exchange resulted in 300.1 GWH of energy being exported. Additionally, the transit of power through the Georgian power system during this period amounted to 391.1 GWH.
