Giorgi Abramishvili, Executive Director of Georgian Renewable Energy Development Association declares that electricity imports cannot be compared with the imports of other products due to its strategy.
At the same time, Abramishvili believes that unused renewable energy resources are a betrayal of the country.
“We predict based on the currently developed scenario in the country, that we will have to pay about USD 600 million annually for electricity imports by 2030. I would like to add an example, electricity price affects the bread price and all other products. So, its strategy is more important. The fact that we import bread, tomatoes or shoes cannot be compared to the electricity imports, because it is much more strategic. I say directly, that unused renewable energy resources are just a betrayal of our country," Abramishvili said.
In January-September of this year, USD 37 million 113 thousand were spent on electricity imports to Georgia.
