A new international airport will be built in Tbilisi, namely in Vaziani. According to initial estimates, the construction of the new international airport will cost USD 1.2 billion and after all phases of development, it will be able to receive 19 million passengers in the long term.
The Government of Georgia expects that the project will be financed by a private investor. It is not yet known under what conditions the tender for the construction of the new airport will be announced.
The distance between Tbilisi Airport and Vaziani Military Airfield is 8 kilometers (straight line). However, the length of the road will expand twice. The distance from the Tbilisi Airport turn to the Vaziani turn is 8 kilometers, and from the Vaziani turn to the military airfield is 8.5 kilometers. Therefore, reaching the airport as a whole will be extended by 16.5 kilometers. According to Google, this distance can be traveled by car in 24 minutes.
