“Today, the case investigator will be questioned during the trial. I reaffirm my stance: I genuinely do not feel guilty. Ultimately, it is for the court to establish the truth,” stated Aleksi Akhvlediani, the former director of the Maritime Transport Agency, ahead of the court proceedings.
Akhvlediani faces accusations of careless firearm possession in connection with the attempted suicide of former Adjara Government Head Tornike Rizhvadze.
He also noted that Rizhvadze is expected to make a statement in the coming days.
“As far as I know, Tornike himself plans to speak soon and address all questions. I can’t speak on his behalf, but I have information that he intends to do so. He is likely to give an interview. He is returning to Georgia and never intended to leave the country; there was a reason he departed. He will be back shortly to clarify everything himself,” Akhvlediani added.
