If Armenia agrees, we will immediately start meetings here in Georgia - Ilham Aliyev

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, during a joint briefing with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in Tbilisi, expressed the need to actively work on a peace agreement with Armenia.

He emphasized the importance of creating a political environment in the South Caucasus that facilitates mutual cooperation involving Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

"Today we talked about the normalization of the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The second war that took place in Nagorno-Karabakh led to the restoration of our territorial integrity. Last month, we restored the sovereignty of the entire country and today we must actively work on a Peace Agreement with Armenia. I hope that we will achieve this and thus we will create a political environment and situation in the South Caucasus where trilateral cooperation will take place with the involvement of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan", -Aliyev said.

He noted that if Armenia expresses its consent, bilateral and multilateral meetings will commence immediately in Georgia. Several countries and international organizations are currently acting as facilitators in the normalization process, and President Aliyev emphasized the importance of Georgia’s involvement in this process.

“We accept any help, but my idea is that the most correct choice, be it historical aspects or any other, from a geographical point of view, we need Georgia to be involved in this situation. I thank the Prime Minister for being ready to help us in this matter and offering his role as a facilitator. This is a country that is ready, and we expect the same from Armenia. If Armenia gives its consent, we will immediately start bilateral and multilateral meetings here in Georgia through the relevant agencies,” President Aliyev affirmed.
