Ikorta Expands Workshop and Boosts Masterclass Demand Amid Challenges on the U.S. Market

იკორთა

Enamel producer and social enterprise Ikorta has expanded and now operates in a fully renovated space, communications manager Ana Akhlouri told BM.GE. The updated workshop has been functioning since March 2025 and now includes an educational component. Two new rooms were added, allowing the enterprise to host larger groups and increase the number of masterclasses.

Demand for masterclasses has risen sharply this year. While Ikorta held around 50–60 sessions last year, 80 masterclasses are already booked for 2025, mostly by tourist companies that have integrated the workshops into their packages. According to Akhlouri, masterclasses not only generate service revenue but also boost jewelry sales, which is crucial given the highly competitive local market.

Ikorta is increasingly focusing on online international sales, especially through Etsy, to ensure stable income outside the tourist season. However, Akhlouri notes that higher tariffs on the U.S. market remain a significant challenge, making American sales more difficult. Strengthening digital sales channels remains one of the company’s top priorities.

As part of its social mission, Ikorta trained four groups of women, including young participants, free of charge over the past year. The enterprise continues to offer two main masterclasses, priced from 130 GEL for group sessions and around 300 GEL for individual workshops. Founded in 2011 in the Tserovani IDP settlement, Ikorta aims to expand employment and self-employment opportunities for local women.
