Ilia Darchiashvili, the former Head of the Government Administration, has been appointed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced on Monday. Darchiashvili replaced David Zalkaliani who has been appointed Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States.
Ilia Darchiashvili served as Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Poland. He has years of experience in diplomatic work. At different times, Ilia Darchiashvili served as First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund, while previously having been engaged in the private sector.
Ilia Darchiashvili is a graduate of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University and a holder of a master’s degree in business administration from Grenoble Graduate School of Business, France.
Ilia Darchiashvili's working experience is as follows:
In 2003-2004, Darchiashvili worked as a Financial Control and Supervision Officer at JSC Bank Republic;
In 2004-2006, he was the Head of the Individual Services Department of JSC Bank Republic;
In 2006-2012, Manager of the branch of JSC Bank Republic (Societe Generale Group);
In 2012-2014, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia - Embassy of Georgia to the Republic of Poland;
In 2014-2015 First Deputy Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia; Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia in 2015;
In 2015-2016, First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia;
In 2016-2017, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia;
In 2017-2021, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Poland; Head of Government Administration of Georgia since 2021.
