Ilia State University has announced its intention to appeal the recent decision by the Authorization Board, which granted the university authorization contingent upon a year-long monitoring period.
In a statement shared via social media, the university expressed its dissatisfaction with the board's decision, particularly the alteration of the highest evaluations awarded by independent experts during the authorization process.
"Ilia State University underwent an extensive evaluation conducted by a panel of both Georgian and international experts in June 2024. According to the expert panel's assessment, the university received the highest ratings across nearly all criteria," the statement noted. "However, during yesterday's session, the Authorization Board revised these top evaluations without providing any justification or explanation and, as a result, granted the university authorization under the condition of one-year monitoring."
The university strongly opposes the board’s ruling and plans to formally challenge the decision. "We fundamentally disagree with the Council’s ruling and will promptly file an appeal with the Appeals Commission as soon as the official minutes and decision are made available. The Council has 10 working days to submit the official protocol and decision," the statement concluded.
