“I am in daily contact with the Minister. He is waiting for comments and ideas regarding the concept. After discussions with academic circles, we will all reach a joint decision,” David Gurgenidze, lecturer at the Georgian Technical University, told journalists.
“My dear young people, Deputy Minister Zviad Gabisonia presented a completely different position and view. He offered the academic community and professors three options to discuss. My colleagues have their own opinions - he is reviewing them, and we will reach an agreement. As I discussed with the Minister, he is ready to consider the views of both TSU and GTU, then reconcile them and present the final decision to the Prime Minister,” Gurgenidze said.
Notably, on January 29, it was announced that as part of higher education reform, Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Technical University will be merged. The unified institution will be named Tbilisi State University. The decision has been met with opposition from students and lecturers of both GTU and TSU.
