According to the Union of Oil Products Importers, in January-May 2021, the import of gasoline and diesel fuel in Georgia amounted to 428.5 thousand tons, which is 29.6 thousand tons or 7.4% more than the same period last year (398.9 thousand tons) and by 24.3 tons (or by 6.0%) more than compared to the same period in 2019 before the pandemic (404.2 thousand tons).
In the first 5 months of 2021, imports of gasoline fuel amounted to 217.6 thousand tons, and imports of diesel fuel amounted to 210.9 thousand tons.
According to the categories, in January-May 2021, gasoline fuel imports amounted to the following: A-91 regular type gasoline - 142.3 thousand tons (65.4%); A-95 premium type gasoline - 70.8 thousand tons (32.5%); A-98 super type gasoline - 4.4 thousand tons (2.0%);
In January-May of this year, the largest volume of gasoline and diesel fuel imports came from Romania - 99.0 thousand tons, which is 23.1% of total imports. The following are: Turkmenistan - 95.2 thousand tons - 22.2%; Russia - 93.9 thousand tons - 21.9%; Azerbaijan - 72.0 thousand tons - 16.8%; Bulgaria - 44.6 thousand tons - 10.4%; Greece - 11.1 thousand tons - 2.6; Turkey - 8.1 thousand tons - 1.9%; Kazakhstan - 2.5 thousand tons - 0.6% and others.
"The increase in gasoline and diesel fuel imports is due to many different factors, the most important of which is that the economy is recovering faster than expected this year," the organization said in a statement.
