In Georgia, usage of part of polyethylene bags to be banned
According to the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, new initiative concerning restriction of polyethylene bag usage has been prepared, which implies banning of usage of bags thinner than 50 microns. As stated by Alverd Chankseliani, Head of the Wastes and Chemicals Department in Sakmiani Dila TV show, package of amendments has already been submitted to the Parliament and will be approved in the nearest future. “The project has been developed but it was necessary to prepare standards that Georgia didn’t have and legislative amendments in order to replace plastic bags by biodegradable bags. By now, package of standards and amendments has been developed and submitted to the Parliament. I think, the package will be approved within 1-2 months,” – state Chankseliani.
