Indian Tourist Arrivals to Georgia Have Effectively Stopped, Says Winglet Founder

Tourist flows from India to Georgia have come to a near-complete halt following widespread flight disruptions, according to Ana Kirkitadze, founder of travel company Winglet. Speaking to BMG, she said bookings from the Indian market have been cancelled en masse, leaving what was previously a rapidly growing source market effectively inactive.

Kirkitadze noted that 2025 had been expected to be a strong year for inbound tourism from India. Georgia had previously hosted groups of between 200 and 400 visitors, and a group of 1,800 tourists was scheduled to arrive in July. However, those plans have now been cancelled due to the suspension of air connections.

According to her, the Indian market relied heavily on IndiGo’s direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai, which are currently suspended. She said the carrier is unlikely to resume operations until Iranian airspace fully reopens, while other airlines such as Flydubai and Air Arabia are only gradually restoring services and currently operate at roughly a quarter of previous frequencies.

Winglet is now exploring alternative source markets, although Kirkitadze said building demand in new destinations requires significant time and investment. On the outbound tourism side, demand remains relatively stable, particularly for Mediterranean cruise travel, although rising fuel costs are pushing airfares higher and could lead to further price increases if regional tensions persist.
