Industrial production up both in euro area and EU

In June 2023, the seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 0.5% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU, compared with May 2023, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In May 2023, industrial production remained unchanged in the euro area and in the EU.

In June 2023 compared with June 2022, industrial production decreased by 1.2% in both the euro area and the EU.

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in June 2023, compared with May 2023, production of energy grew by 0.5%, while production of durable consumer goods fell by 0.1%, capital goods by 0.7%, intermediate goods by 0.9% and non-durable consumer goods by 1.1%.

In the EU, production of energy grew by 0.5%, while production of durable consumer goods and non-durable consumer goods fell both by 0.4%, capital goods by 0.7% and intermediate goods by 0.8%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases were registered in Ireland (+13.1%), Denmark (+6.3%) and Lithuania (+3.2%). The largest decreases were observed in Sweden (-5.3%), Finland and Malta (both -3.3%) and Belgium (-3.0%).

Annual comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

In the euro area in June 2023, compared with June 2022, production of energy fell by 7.8%, intermediate goods by 6.3% and durable consumer goods by 5.2%, while production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.2% and capital goods by 4.4%.

In the EU, production of energy fell by 8.9%, intermediate goods by 6.6% and durable consumer goods by 6.5%, while production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 2.1% and capital goods by 4.8%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the largest annual decreases were registered in Estonia (-12.7%), Bulgaria (-9.3%) and Belgium (-7.6%). The highest increases were observed in Denmark (+12.3%), Ireland (+8.3%) and Slovakia (+3.6%).
