The chairman of the Association of Restaurants and Hotels, Shalva Alaverdashvili, says that the most difficult thing during this period is dealing with staff, whose possible dismissal may be necessary. He spoke about this with BM.GE at a protest organized by representatives of the tourism industry.
According to him, hotels in the central districts of the capital are empty and the total occupancy rate has dropped to almost 5%.
“At this stage, hotels in the city center and in the central districts of Tbilisi are empty, some are closed, and instead of giving New Year bonuses, we have to negotiate what will happen. Will these people have a job tomorrow or not. Accordingly, it is a very difficult process, these people may lose their jobs before the New Year.
This is due to the fact that the occupancy rate of hotels has dropped to almost 5%. As for the regions, reservations in the Gudauri resort are still valid and have not been canceled. I really hope that reservations will not be canceled, especially from abroad. 60% of Gudauri is waiting for tourists from Israel. We must agree on one thing: business has suffered greatly in the last two weeks and I don't know how it will survive this," Alaverdashvili said.
