Georgian bakery producer Ipkli Digomi is expanding its operations with the opening of a new production facility in Varketili, Tbilisi, the company’s Marketing Manager Sophio Bediashvili told BM.GE. She said construction is virtually complete, with only final technical work and staff recruitment remaining before the plant begins operations.

The company purchased a 4,092-square-meter land plot near Tbilisi Airport in 2023 for GEL 1.95 million to build the new facility. According to Bediashvili, the plant will operate under the highest international food safety standards. In addition to the company's existing ISO 22000 certification, the new factory will implement the FSSC standard, enabling compliance with requirements for the U.S. and Canadian markets.

The facility is expected to become operational by the end of the year, although the timeline will depend largely on recruiting qualified employees. Ipkli Digomi plans to offer paid internships to recent university graduates with the goal of hiring them as permanent staff. The company currently employs more than 600 people, and the workforce is expected to grow further once the new factory opens.

The new plant will produce goods for both export markets and customers in eastern Tbilisi. According to the company, the investment is also aimed at improving distribution efficiency by reducing delivery delays caused by heavy traffic and restrictions on truck movement during peak hours. The Varketili facility will allow faster deliveries across the eastern part of the capital, improving both customer service and sales performance.
