Irakli Kobakhidze Announces Upcoming Healthcare Reform

ჯანდაცვა

Following the education sector, GD Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that a comprehensive reform in healthcare is also needed. Speaking on “Imedi” TV, he emphasized that systemic issues in the healthcare sector force many Georgians, who can afford it, to seek medical treatment abroad due to unsatisfactory quality in some areas.

Kobakhidze stated that a strategic, long-term approach could raise the quality of healthcare in Georgia to match standards in countries like Turkey, Germany, Israel, or Austria. He stressed that achieving this requires a carefully planned strategy rather than ad hoc measures.

Kobakhidze highlighted that the government plans to create a detailed strategic plan covering all areas of healthcare, which will enable not only gradual improvements but transformative changes. He invited qualified and experienced medical professionals to contribute to the process, noting that their expertise is more valuable than political opinions.

Kobakhidze added that the government aims to plan Georgia’s development strategically until 2036, presenting an 11-year roadmap with clear priorities and actions. He referred to the education reform as an example, explaining that without a structured plan, the system evolved only slowly with minimal results, which prompted the launch of an ambitious reform agenda.
