Iran has emerged as a new market for Georgian ferroalloys, with $18.1 million worth of products exported there in the first eight months of 2026. In previous years, exports to Iran were negligible.

Ferroalloys Association Chairman Nugzar Kevlishvili said the recent exports were mainly carried out by smaller producers. He attributed higher demand and prices for metallurgical products in Iran to tensions in the Middle East.

Kevlishvili said prices in Europe and the US remain around $1,150–$1,250 per tonne, while buyers in Iran are paying around $1,300–$1,350 per tonne for products delivered in Georgia. However, banking restrictions and difficulties with transfers linked to sanctions continue to limit access to the Iranian market for many companies.

Georgia exported $219 million worth of ferroalloys in January-August, up 60% year-on-year. The US was the largest market at $38.1 million, followed by Turkey at $36.5 million, Algeria at $18.3 million, Iran at $18.1 million and Italy at $15.7 million.
