Iran is planning to significantly increase its cooperation with Armenia by investing around $3 billion in joint projects, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani announced during a press meeting on September 6.
The diplomat emphasized the vast potential for developing relations between the two countries in various sectors. According to him, the already established ties can serve as a solid foundation for further strengthening not only economic but also political cooperation.
Sobhani highlighted Iran's extensive experience in infrastructure development, particularly in building bridges and roads. "We are firmly committed to carrying out the plans and utilizing the full potential of our relations," the ambassador stated. He also assured the Armenian side of Iran’s long-term support, saying, "We are with you and will remain with you."
In conclusion, Sobhani expressed optimism about the future of Iran-Armenia relations, predicting a "very bright future."
Previously, Ambassador Sobhani told Iran's SNN agency that Iranian gas exports to Armenia would soon double. A year ago, Armenia and Iran extended the "Gas for Electricity" agreement until 2030. Tehran exports 360 million cubic meters of gas to Armenia annually in exchange for electricity.
In the trade sector, the volume of trade between Armenia and Iran increased to $711 million in 2023. Every day, 400 trucks travel between Iran and Armenia.
