The number of companies registered by Iranian citizens in Georgia exceeds 12,800—data analyzed by the Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC) as part of an overview of the number and economic activity of Iranian companies in Georgia.
According to the center's assessment, the number of Iranian companies registered in Georgia has grown by approximately 510% since 2012; however, a corresponding increase in the volume of Iranian investments was not recorded over the same period.'
"The statistics raise an important question: why is the number of Iranian companies growing much faster than the volume of investments and overall official financial inflows?" the organization states.
According to the data analyzed by the EPRC, by 2025–2026, the number of Iranian companies registered in Georgia exceeded 12,800. Meanwhile, according to data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia and the National Bank of Georgia, Iranian investments in recent years mostly fluctuated within the range of a few million dollars.
"From 2013 to 2024, total Iranian investment amounted to 41 million USD, which represented growth compared to the previous period, though it constituted a rather small amount when calculated per company," the EPRC notes.
In 2024, net foreign direct investment from Iran to Georgia was negative at -0.65 million USD, while preliminary data for 2025 indicates the figure stood at approximately 0.4 million USD. As a result, Iran's share in Georgia's total foreign direct investment remains negligible according to official statistics.According to the EPRC's assessment, it is precisely this disparity between the number of companies and the volume of investments that raises questions.
