IRI: 78% supports switching to a fully proportional electoral system

The first International Republican Institute (IRI) national poll conducted in Georgia since the anti-Russia protests in June 2019 indicates a continued deficit of trust in the government. Data was collected throughout Georgia between September 11 and October 14, 2019. The sample consisted of 1,500 permanent residents of Georgia older than the age of 18 and eligible to vote.

According to the Research, 78% of supports switching to a fully proportional electoral system.

Respondents’ had the following answers on the question “do you support or oppose to switching to a fully proportional electoral system in Georgia?”
Strongly support - 47%
Somewhat support -31%
Somewhat oppose - 7%
Strongly oppose - 2%
Don't know/No answer – 13%

To remind, the field work was carried out by Institute of Polling & Marketing. The survey was coordinated by Dr. Rasa Alisauskiene of the public and market research company Baltic Surveys/The Gallup Organization on behalf of the International Republican Institute’s Center for Insights in Survey Research. Data was collected throughout Georgia between September 11 and October 14, 2019, through face-to-face interviews at respondents’ homes. The sample consisted of 1,500 permanent residents of Georgia old.
