All ski resorts in Georgia still remain closed, despite the Government of Georgia starting easing of several restrictions from February 8. However, Swiss government decided to allow most of the ski areas to open during this winter amid pandemic.
According to Swiss Ambassador to Georgia Patrick Franzen, it depends on the regional pandemic situation, but in general, Switzerland did not see an increase of infections because of that.
“It depends on the regional pandemic situation; we had both, open and closed ski resorts. In general, we did not see an increase of infections because of that. However, in areas with many international tourists, we experienced a higher spread of virus mutations locally and the authorities had to act swiftly to impose quarantine and intensive testing measures. Thus, it was a mixed experience. It did certainly not contribute to contain the virus”, Patrick Franzen said.
Swiss Ambassador declares that “it is simply impossible to impose a ban on skiing on Swiss people”.
