Joint Statement of Business Associations Regarding The EU Candidate Status

On November 30, upon the initiative of the EU-Georgia Business Council, 14 leading business associations made a joint statement on granting of the EU candidate status to Georgia.

In the statement, the associations reaffirmed their support for the European integration process, welcome the recommendation of the European Commission and will add the voice of businesses in Georgia to the call to grant the EU candidate status to Georgia in December.

"We, welcome the European Commission’s recent recommendation on granting the EU candidate status to Georgia; reaffirm the business sector’s unequivocal support for Georgia’s EU integration, which bears particular importance for a long-term stability, prosperity and development of the country; acknowledge that the AA/DCFTA and visa-free travel are key instruments that should be fully utilized in the process of the EU-Georgia rapprochement; firmly believe that granting the EU candidacy status to Georgia will give a positive signal to other Eastern Partnership Countries in the Region; add the voice of businesses in Georgia to the call to grant the EU candidacy status to Georgia and anticipate that the decision of the European Council in December will bring the country to even closer to its ultimate goal – EU membership", - the statement noted.
