The Kazbegi Customs Checkpoint has suspended operations following an alert from the early warning system in the Devdoraki Gorge, Georgia’s Revenue Service said. The checkpoint will resume operations once the factors posing a potential threat have subsided.
According to the Revenue Service, the warning system installed in the Devdoraki Gorge was activated and immediately sent an alert to the Kazbegi Customs Checkpoint. As a safety measure, checkpoint employees, Interior Ministry patrol and border police officers, company employees, vehicles, drivers and passengers were moved to a secure area in coordination with relevant state agencies.
“All customs control procedures at the Kazbegi Customs Checkpoint have been suspended. The import and export of goods across Georgia’s customs border, as well as customs control procedures for individuals crossing the state border through the checkpoint, cannot be carried out,” the Revenue Service said.
The agency said the checkpoint will return to normal, full-capacity operations once the threat level decreases. Passenger and cargo traffic will then resume without restrictions, according to the statement.
