Georgian blueberry producer Keystone Agro, which operates 55 hectares of blueberry orchards in Chkhorio, Samegrelo, plans to introduce new technologies in its production this year.
According to the company’s director, Tornike Panjavidze, speaking to BM.GE, the upgrades will focus primarily on cold storage infrastructure and technologies that extend product shelf life. The investment is estimated at around $100,000.
“We are not planning to expand production this year. Our focus is on implementing new technologies and refining post-harvest processes, including cold storage, laboratory work, quality control, and special packaging materials that prolong product shelf life. We had considered bringing in harvesting machines (‘harvesters’), but this will depend on our capabilities during the year,” Panjavidze said.
In addition, the company plans to support local businesses by increasing the availability of members’ products through the Blueberry Producers Association. This involves cooperation with Georgian retailers at fixed prices to promote blueberries on the local market.
