Koba Khundadze, who faces charges of laundering a particularly large amount of illicit income and is linked to the Grigol Liluashvili case, has been released from prison. The news was confirmed to BM.GE by his former lawyer, Zurab Tabidze.
Khundadze was originally arrested on October 22 during a Prosecutor’s Office briefing. Authorities identified him as a close associate of Grigol Liluashvili and the brother of former Deputy Head of Georgia’s Revenue Service, Vladimer Khundadze. During a search of his home, investigators seized $1,319,300 packaged in 94 envelopes as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.
According to Tabidze, Koba Khundadze was released on January 16 on bail. The lawyer noted that the family had managed the Khundadze brothers’ case privately for about a month, limiting the information available to him.
Following Koba Khundadze’s release, his brother Vladimer Khundadze voluntarily surrendered to investigative authorities. Vladimer, who served as Deputy Head of the Revenue Service, was charged in absentia with abuse of official power for allegedly protecting an unlicensed alcohol production facility. The court had ordered pre-trial detention in his case.
