The Task Force for Natural Disaster in West Georgia continues working on red alert. At today's Task Force meeting, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze was briefed in detail on measures carried out overnight. Together with the force's members, he discussed steps to be taken during the day.
It was noted at the meeting that mobile groups consisting of representatives of various institutions worked all night at different locations, with road clearance work to be completed around the village of Atsana and adjacent villages in the nearest hours. In addition, emergency medical crews continue all-out efforts to provide both medications to patients with chronic diseases and medical assistance to the population. It was noted that timely response was ensured to every emergency call through the night, and emergency crews managed to reach relevant locations.
In addition, special machinery of the Defense Forces was used to clear all arterial roads connecting to Ozurgeti. To assist the affected population, Defense Forces units-in coordination with firefighters/rescuers of the Interior Ministry's Emergency Management Service-worked in various directions.
To support emergency response, units and special technical machinery have been allocated by the Defense Forces Western and Eastern, Special Operations, Army Logistics, and Training and Military Education Commands. The process on the ground is supervised by Vice Prime Minister/Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani.
In addition, intensive clearing work is underway in Chokhatauri and Lanchkhuti Municipalities. Local authorities maintain active communication with the population, and the need of every citizen will be met during the day, including, if need be, their evacuation from the disaster area.
It was noted that, in order to effectively respond to the challenges brought about by the disaster, additional machinery will be mobilized in critical locations during the day.
The Prime Minister instructed representatives of relevant agencies to finalize the work, defined in the plan, as promptly as possible.
