Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze believes that Georgia—more specifically the Kulevi Oil Terminal—will not be included in the European Union’s 20th package of sanctions against Russia.

“We provided the European Commission with complete information regarding Kulevi, and this information confirms that the sanctions regime is not being violated there,” Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to him, there is no evidence of violations of the sanctions regime, and therefore Georgia will not be included in this package.

“This is verified information that we shared with the European Commission, and based on this we hope that Kulevi will not be included in the sanctions package. We provided clear information to the EU that the sanctions regime is not being violated in Kulevi. We sent the relevant information to the European Commission and are waiting for its decision. Logically, since there is zero evidence of sanctions violations, I believe Georgia will not be included in this package. Including a specific strategic facility in a sanctions package is bad. This pleased Mikheil Saakashvili—he expressed hope that Kulevi would be sanctioned, but what pleases Saakashvili does not please the Georgian people. Exports have increased, but the sanctions regime is not being violated. Oil products come in and, after processing, are exported,” the Prime Minister said.
