Labor Migration Law Changes Require Businesses to Prepare in Advance - Sopho Dugashvili

სოფო დუღაშვილი

Changes to Georgia’s Labor Migration Law, effective from March 1, 2026, are already prompting businesses to plan ahead, says Sopho Dugashvili, Head of Legal at Rustavi Azot Indorama. The new regulations aim to protect the local labor market and introduce systematic oversight, but their effective implementation depends on the timely publication of subordinate legal acts.

Dugashvili emphasizes that companies need clear instructions to plan workforce allocation and operational processes without disruption. Businesses must understand the new requirements in advance to comply effectively and maintain smooth operations.

She notes that while the changes support local labor development, certain industrial sectors may face shortages of qualified local specialists. In such cases, foreign experts could play a critical role, contributing additional value and supporting professional development for local employees.

Accordingly, Dugashvili stresses the importance of balanced administrative management, which protects the labor market while ensuring that businesses can continue to function efficiently under the new rules.
