The process of acquiring land for the road and related infrastructure connecting to the Anaklia Deep Sea Port is currently underway, with more than 1.7 million square meters of registered land included in the acquisition plan. The Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure told BMG that the construction tender for the access road is expected to be announced in 2027.
According to the agency, the land acquisition and resettlement plan covers the purchase of registered plots with a total area of 1,720,553 square meters. The project also includes establishing easements for land affected by the protection zone of a 35 kV power transmission line, covering an additional 74,824 square meters. Compensation measures are also planned for assets located on unregistered land, including buildings, trees, and annual crops.
The first six months of the project have already required more than GEL 19 million, while the total resettlement budget is set at GEL 40.1 million. A financing agreement for construction of the 18-kilometer access road has not yet been signed, with preparatory work continuing, including the selection of a development partner.
According to the 2026 state budget, the estimated cost of the Anaklia port access road project is GEL 327 million, covering both land acquisition and construction expenses. The wider transport connection will include road and railway infrastructure, including a 17.5-kilometer railway section and around 19.5 kilometers of road, with plans for five viaducts, 11 crossings, and 35 drainage structures. Meanwhile, construction works directly at the Anaklia port site — including seabed dredging, shoreline development, and breakwater construction — are already underway by Belgian company Jan De Nul under a contract worth around $150 million.
